Privacy & Cookie Policy

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

When you visit any website, it may store or retrieve information on your browser in the form of cookies and similar technologies (collectively, ‘cookies’ except where otherwise noted). Cookies are small text files that are transferred to your computer or mobile device by a website. This information might be about you, your preferences, or your device, and is typically used to make the site work as you expect it.

Please click on Manage 'Cookies' Settings to find out more about the categories of cookies and options to change your default settings. From there, you can also see a detailed list of the cookies that the website uses and their lifespan. Please note that you can change your cookie preferences, but this will not automatically remove cookies that have already been set on your computer or mobile device. You can find instructions on how to clear cookies from your browser at However, blocking some types of cookies may impact your experience with the site and the services offered, where applicable.

This Cookie Statement forms part of our overall Privacy Statement.

We may use the following types of cookies and similar technologies on our websites:

Strictly Necessary

These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in, or filling in forms. You can set your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, however if you do so, some parts of the site will not work.

Performance Cookies

These cookies allow us to count visits, collect analytics and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our site. They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the site. In certain countries prior to banner acceptance, performance cookies may be sent to your browser. You may clear these cookies in your browser settings so that we will not know when you have visited our site and will not be able to monitor its performance.

Functional Cookies

These cookies enable the site to provide enhanced functionality and personalization. They may be set by us or by third party providers whose services we have added to our pages. If you do not allow these cookies, some or all of these services may not function properly.

Targeting Cookies

These cookies may be implemented through our site by our advertising partners. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant ads on other sites. They are based on uniquely identifying your browser and internet device, but they do not store personal information that directly identifies you. If you do not allow these cookies, you will experience less targeted advertising.

Social Media Cookies

These cookies are set by social media services that we may have added to the site to enable you to share our content with your friends and social or professional networks. They can track your browser across other sites and build a profile of your interests. They may impact the content and messages you see on other websites you visit. If you do not allow these cookies, you may not be able to use or see these sharing tools.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a service provided by Google, Inc., which uses a set of cookies to collect information and report site usage statistics. We use Google Analytics to measure and improve the performance of our site. To opt-out of having your data used by these cookies, please use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Collection of Data
Our site uses technologies of  third-party partners to help us recognize your device and understand how you use our site so that we can improve our services to reflect your interests and serve you advertisements about the services that are likely to be of more interest to you. Specifically, these partners collect information about your activity on our site(s) to enable us to:

measure and analyze traffic and browsing activity on our site(s);

show advertisements for our products and/or services to you on third-party sites;

measure and analyze the performance of our advertising campaigns

Cross-Device Data Collection
We may share data, such as hashed email derived from emails or other online identifiers collected on our site with our advertising partners. This allows our partners to recognize and deliver  you ads  across devices and browsers. To read more about the technologies used by our partner and their cross device capabilities please refer to NextRoll’s Privacy Notice.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
